“When you’ve been blessed it’s like heaven” song lyrics borrowed from Ms. Patti Labelle, who is one of the greatest singers on earth. “When you’ve been blessed it’s like heaven” lyrics, were Co-written by James Bud Ellison and Nona Hendrix. It’s a song that tugs at your heart and puts insignificant thoughts in perspective. Patti’s lyrics mean so much to me especially, when I break down the meaning behind the words. I have been meditating on this song for months. Particularly, the line in the song that states “In a world of weak and strong, in a sea of have and have not’s I’ve survived the raging storm.”
Surviving a raging storm and still discerning the bigger picture when it comes to our personal storms is a gift within itself. Often times we miss the opportunity to see blessings that are greater than any material object. Being blessed is not exclusively connected to having large quantities of material processions. Although many people equate the word blessing to having the latest and greatest, the word blessing really means more than the physical eye could ever comprehend. Blessings are abundant all you have to do is look around and you will notice a personal blessing in your life. For example, things like water, shelter and a hot meal are huge blessings that often go unnoticed. Every time I am driving on the freeway and before going under the overpass. I always look up and think to myself, I hope each person has a hot meal and stays warm and safe at night. Tents and tiny houses are popping up all over Los Angeles with people seeking to have them removed. Namely, at the disillusion of many individuals, tiny houses on wheels are parked in front of local homes and on the freeway overpass. By the same token, the situation is still treated with an invisible lens.
Finally, it is so important to reflect on the many blessings that we as a society have been granted. If you are able to wake up and get out of bed on your own, remember that is a blessing within itself. If at all possible seek to encounter life with a grateful heart.
