Gluten Allergy VS Celiac Disease VS gluten free Lifestyle what exactly is the difference between the three? or is there even a difference? Yes, there is a difference and we are going to briefly discuss the differences.
What is Gluten Free? A question I am asked on a daily basis especially when someone finds out I don’t eat foods with wheat/gluten. As someone who was diagnosed with food gluten sensitivity, I have gotten used to eating very carefully in my daily life. I try my hardest to make sure I do not eat gluten filled foods. For instance, Just in case I mistakenly eat food items with wheat/gluten my EpipPen (Epinephrine) Auto-injector is always near. In particular, I didn’t realize until recently the amount gluten/wheat flour food human beings consume. For instance, gluten/wheat filled flour is a large ingredient in Hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza, three of the most popular foods in America. Foods containing gluten/ wheat ingredients are also common in most recipes that require flour.
What does it mean to be gluten free?
It means a diet that excludes gluten, which is a protein campsite found in wheat, barley, and rye. Gluten helps food maintain its shape, acting as glue, that holds food together. Having a gluten Allergy is very serious and almost deadly. Depending on the type of food allergy, an individual is diagnosed with and the immediate effect the gluten has on their body. In my case, it is very serious for me to avoid gluten at all cost.
Celiac Disease is a condition caused by irregular, immune response to gluten as well as damaging the lining of the small intestine, which prevents important nutrients from being absorbed. (Web Med)
